THE WORD OF GOD
God didn’t make death. God takes no delight in the ruin of anything that lives. God created everything so that it might exist. The creative forces at work in the cosmos are life-giving. There is no destructive poison in them. The underworld doesn’t rule on earth. Doing what is right means living forever.
God created humans to live forever. He made them as a perfect representation of his own unique identity. Death entered the universe only through the devil’s envy. Those who belong to the devil’s party experience death.

But we have this treasure in clay pots so that the awesome power belongs to God and doesn’t come from us. We are experiencing all kinds of trouble, but we aren’t crushed. We are confused, but we aren’t depressed. We are harassed, but we aren’t abandoned. We are knocked down, but we aren’t knocked out.
We always carry Jesus’ death around in our bodies so that Jesus’ life can also be seen in our bodies. We who are alive are always being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake so that Jesus’ life can also be seen in our bodies that are dying. So death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
We have the same faithful spirit as what is written in scripture: I had faith, and so I spoke. We also have faith, and so we also speak. We do this because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus, and he will bring us into his presence along with you. All these things are for your benefit. As grace increases to benefit more and more people, it will cause gratitude to increase, which results in God’s glory.

Jesus crossed the lake again, and on the other side a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. Jairus, one of the synagogue leaders, came forward. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded with him, “My daughter is about to die. Please, come and place your hands on her so that she can be healed and live.” So Jesus went with him.
A swarm of people were following Jesus, crowding in on him. A woman was there who had been bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a lot under the care of many doctors, and had spent everything she had without getting any better. In fact, she had gotten worse. Because she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothes. She was thinking, If I can just touch his clothes, I’ll be healed. Her bleeding stopped immediately, and she sensed in her body that her illness had been healed.
At that very moment, Jesus recognized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” His disciples said to him, “Don’t you see the crowd pressing against you? Yet you ask, ‘Who touched me?’” But Jesus looked around carefully to see who had done it.
The woman, full of fear and trembling, came forward. Knowing what had happened to her, she fell down in front of Jesus and told him the whole truth. He responded, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, healed from your disease.”
While Jesus was still speaking with her, messengers came from the synagogue leader’s house, saying to Jairus, “Your daughter has died. Why bother the teacher any longer?”
But Jesus overheard their report and said to the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid; just keep trusting.” He didn’t allow anyone to follow him except Peter, James, and John, James’ brother. They came to the synagogue leader’s house, and he saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, “What’s all this commotion and crying about? The child isn’t dead. She’s only sleeping.” They laughed at him, but he threw them all out. Then, taking the child’s parents and his disciples with him, he went to the room where the child was. Taking her hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Young woman, get up.” Suddenly the young woman got up and began to walk around. She was 12 years old. They were shocked! He gave them strict orders that no one should know what had happened. Then he told them to give her something to eat.

For the Church: that we, who are made in the image of God, may celebrate God’s gift of life to us and live it with gratitude and zeal
For growth in our faith: that God will draw us into a deeper relationship, help us to trust in challenging times, and free us from fear
For the grace of generosity: that inspired by Christ who became one with us, God will free our hearts to share with those who are struggling so that they may experience God’s blessing
For all who are ill, particularly children and those with chronic conditions: that God will renew the gift of life within them and restore them to health and wholeness
For the parents of children who are ill: that God will comfort them, ease their fear, and give them strength to keep loving and supporting their children
For all who are clinging to life, particularly those who have fled war, gangs, famine, or natural disasters: that God will open the hearts of many to reach out to them and support them
For all who are incapacitated by age, disability, mental illness, or illiteracy: that they may be respected as persons and receive the food, shelter, and medical care they need
For all entrapped by loneliness: that God’s love may break through their bonds and heal their deepest hurts
For the members of Congress: that God will open them to finding ways to work together in developing programs that address the greatest needs in society and the advancement of the common good
For the healing of minds and hearts: that the healing touch of Jesus will restore those who have experienced abuse, discrimination, abandonment, or ridicule
For an end to a reliance on death: that the Spirit will free us from the works of death and help us to protect human life from beginning to natural end
For all who are unemployed: that God will raise their hopes, open new opportunities for them, and relieve their discouragement
For all who are working to end the Covid pandemic: that God will guide and protect all who are manufacturing, distributing, or administering the vaccine and help them to persevere through difficult challenges
For all who are traveling: that God will watch over them and protect them from harm
For peace: that God will guide leaders of nations in promoting agricultural and economic development so that everyone may have food and opportunities to use their gifts
