and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;

even the hill of Sion which he loved.

Listen, my people, to instruction;

but left in the day of battle.
Not keeping God’s covenant,
refusing to walk in his law;

his miracles that he showed them.

Dividing the sea so they passed through,
making the waters stand in a heap.
Leading with cloud by day,
with a light of fire by night.
He split the rocks in the wilderness,
gave drink in full like the ocean depths.

against the Most high.
In their heart putting God to the test,
by asking for food they desired.
Against their God they grumbled,
in deserts will God set table?

God of pilgrims,
strengthen our faith, we pray.
Guide us through the uncertainties of our journey,
and hold before us the vision of your eternal kingdom,

THE WORD OF GOD
Lord, you are my God.
I will exalt you; I will praise your name,
for you have done wonderful things,
planned long ago, faithful and sure.
You have turned the city into rubble,
the fortified town into a ruin,
the fortress of foreigners into a city no more,
never to be rebuilt.
Therefore, strong people will glorify you;
the towns of tyrant nations will fear you.
You have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in distress,
a hiding place from the storm,
a shade from the heat.
When the breath of tyrants is like a winter storm
or like heat in the desert,
you subdue the roar of foreigners.
Like heat shaded by a cloud,
the tyrants’ song falls silent.
On this mountain,
the Lord of heavenly forces will prepare for all peoples
a rich feast, a feast of choice wines,
of select foods rich in flavor,
of choice wines well refined.
He will swallow up on this mountain the veil that is veiling all peoples,
the shroud enshrouding all nations.
He will swallow up death forever.
The Lord God will wipe tears from every face;
he will remove his people’s disgrace from off the whole earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
They will say on that day,
“Look! This is our God,
for whom we have waited—
and he has saved us!
This is the Lord, for whom we have waited;
let’s be glad and rejoice in his salvation!”

Loved ones, I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to come to an agreement in the Lord. Yes, and I’m also asking you, loyal friend, to help these women who have struggled together with me in the ministry of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my coworkers whose names are in the scroll of life.
Be glad in the Lord always! Again I say, be glad! Let your gentleness show in your treatment of all people. The Lord is near. Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks. Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.
From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise. Practice these things: whatever you learned, received, heard, or saw in us. The God of peace will be with you.

For the Church: that we may hear God’s invitation to life and enter wholeheartedly into the banquet that God has prepared for us
For the grace of openness: that we offer hospitality to all who come to our communities and show God’s love and compassion to them
For gratitude: that God will expand our awareness of all the blessings and resources that we have and empower us to use them for God’s glory and the good of others
For confidence: that whether we live in abundance or in need, we may be aware that God loves us and is always with us
For fruitfulness of our faith: that our lives may manifest a wedding garment made of deeds of justice and acts of charity that proclaim the goodness of God to all
For greater trust: that we may be confident of God’s providence love that provides for all our needs even during challenges and sufferings
For strength: that God will free us from fear and give us the strength to be faithful disciples in every circumstance
For all who are recovering from natural disasters: that God will give them hope and stir the hearts of many to assist them in their time of need
For all who are preparing for marriage: that they may grow in love for each other and find Christ in one another
For deeper respect for human life, particularly for the terminally ill: that God will help them as they journey into eternal life and help us to support them
For all who have been touched by violence or abuse: that God will heal their pain, ease their fear, and fill their hearts with peace
For peace in our cities and communities: that God will help us to understand the pain of those who have suffered injustice and give us the courage to work for reconciliation
For all who are ill: that God will ease their suffering, return them to health, and that they may experience God’s abiding presence with them
For Wisdom: that God will help us hear and discern the truth during the election process, and help us to respect each person as we recognize their strengths and weaknesses
