Psalm 105B

The Truth from Above L.M. (English traditional, harm. adapted from Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1872-1958)

16 He summoned famine on the land;
their food was stopped at his command.
17 But Joseph, sent ahead of them,
was sold a slave to ruthless men.

18 His feet in fetters were confined,
his neck put in a brace of iron.
19 Til his predictions came to pass,
the LORD’s word proved him as a test.

20 The king then sent for his release,
the ruler gave him liberty.
21 He made him lord of all his lands,
22 his princes bowed to his commands.

23 Then Israel came to Egypt’s land,
and Jacob sojourned there in Ham.
24 The LORD God made his people grow;
he made them stronger than their foe.

25 He changed their hearts to hate his own,
to plot against his servants’ sons.
26 And Moses, Aaron then he sent,
27 to Ham to do his signs for them.

28 He sent deep darkness on the land;
against his words they did not stand.
29 He turned their waters into blood,
which caused their fish to be destroyed.

30 The frogs filled palaces and homes;
31 his word caused flies and gnats to swarm.
32 He gave them hail, bright lightning flashed;
33 he struck their vines, the trees he slashed.

34 He spoke and countless locusts came,
35 and all things green the locusts ate.
36 The firstborn of the land he killed,
the first fruits of their strength and skill.
