Psalm 13

St. Botolph C.M. (Gordon Slater, 1896-1979)

1 How long will you forget me, LORD?
Will you forget always?
How long, LORD, will you hide your face
and turn from me your gaze?

2 How long shall griefs distress me
and turn my day to night?
How long shall foes oppress me
and triumph in their might?

3 O LORD my God, behold me,
and hear my earnest cries;
lest sleep of death enfold me,
shed light upon my eyes.

4 Then would my enemy declare,
“At last I brought him low!”
And so my foes would sing for joy
to see my overthrow.

5 But still I trust your steadfast love;
your saving pow’r I praise.
6 The LORD has richly dealt with me;
my songs to him I raise.
