Psalm 2

Mein Seel, O Herr, muss loben dich L.M.  Bartholomäus Gesius (1555-1613)

1 Why do the heathen nations rage?
Why do the peoples plot in vain?
2 Earth’s kings combine in enmity;
its rulers join against God’s reign.

They take their stand against the LORD
and challenge his anointed one:
3 “Let us break off their chains from us;
with their restraints let us be done.”

4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord on high derides them all.
5 Then he rebukes them in his wrath;
his rage and terror on them fall.

6 The LORD has made it known to them:
“He is the king I have installed;
7 to reign on Zion, as my son.
My begotten whom I have called.

8 “Ask me, and for your heritage
I’ll give you nations near and far.
9 You’ll break them with an iron rod,
and smash them like a potter’s jar.”

10 Now therefore, kings, true wisdom find;
you judges of the earth, give ear.
11 With rev’rence come and serve the LORD;
bow down with joy and trembling fear.

12 Delay not, lest his anger rise,
and you should perish in your ways;
May all that put their trust in him
be blest indeed and blest always.
