16 On God alone my soul relies,
and he will soon relieve;
17 the LORD will hear my plaintive cries
at morning, noon, and eve.
18 He has redeemed my soul in peace,
from conflict set me free;
my many foes are made to cease,
and strive no more with me.
19 The living God will from his throne
will reward them with shame
all those who, hardened by success,
forget to fear his name
20 But you, my close companion, broke
our covenant of trust.
21 Though smooth as butter, ev’ry word
is like a dagger thrust.
23 Cast all your cares upon the LORD;
your life he will sustain.
The righteous he will never fail;
secure they will remain.
24 Into destruction’s miry pit
the treacherous are thrust;
their length of days are cut in half.
But you, O God, I trust.
