Psalm 60

Ottery St. Mary 8.7.8.7. (Henry George Ley, 1887-1962)

1 You, O God, reject and spurn us;
you have broken our defense.
You have dealt with us in anger;
O restore us, Lord, again.

3 O come down and mend the fractures
that you’ve caused by your earthquake.
Your people have suffered hard things
and like drunks their bodies shake.

4 But for those who truly fear you,
lift your banner high above.
5 With your right hand save and help us;
rescue all those whom you love.

6 God said “I will divide Shechem,
and portion out the valley.
7 Gilead and Manasseh are mine,
with Ephraim I will rally;

“Judah I will make my scepter
8 and on Edom toss my shoe.
Moab will be my washbasin,
the Philistines I’ll outdo.

9 Who will lead us to the city
that is strongly fortified?
10 Did you not reject us, O God?
You’re no longer by our side.

11 Since all human help is worthless,
grant us help against the foe.
12 With our God we shall be valiant
and victory we will know.
