Psalm 62

Resignation C.M.D. (Freeman Lewis, Beauties of Harmony, 1828)

1 For God alone my soul awaits
in quiet silence still;
from him alone salvation comes.
2 My rock of strength is he;
My rescue comes from him alone;
my fortress strong is he.
In him alone I am secure;
I’ll not be greatly moved.

2 How long will your assault endure
and continue batt’ring
as if against a leaning wall
or a fence that’s tott’ring?
3 My foes conspire to bring me down;
they scorn my troubled state.
4 Their lips are quick to sound my praise,
but in their hearts they hate.

5 For God alone my soul awaits
in quiet silence still;
my hope in him is ever sure.
6 my rock of strength is he;
my rescue comes from him alone;
my fortress strong is he.
In him alone I am secure;
I’ll not be greatly moved.

7 My aid and honor come from God,
my refuge strong and sure.
8 Let all God’s servants trust the LORD;
in him we are secure.
9 The great of earth are less than dust;
all mortal strength is vain.
10 And fools alone rely on wealth
or prize ill-gotten gain.

11 For God has truly spoken once;
he twice to me made known:
that strength and pow’r belong to God
and unto him alone;
12 And steadfast love belongs to you,
our faithful, loving Lord.
Our every deed, for good or ill,
you surely will reward.
