1 God the Lord is known in Judah;
great his name in Israel;
2 he has pitched his tent in Salem;
he abides on Zion’s hill.
3 There he broke the flashing arrows,
shield and sword designed to kill.
4 God, most excellent and awesome,
more than mountains, firm and high.
5 Though they once were mighty warriors,
in the sleep of death they lie.
6 Jacob’s God, you did rebuke them;
7 you are fearful in your might.
8 When from heav’n you uttered judgment,
all the earth in fear stood still,
9 while to save the poor and humble
God in judgment worked his will.
10 Even human wrath shall praise you:
your design it shall fulfill.
11 Make your vows to God and keep them;
pay the LORD what he is owed.
Come and bring your gifts before him;
worship God and him alone.
12 He cuts off the pride of princes;
leaders bow before his throne.
